“Science says: It is not familiarity or time that kills desire and passion, it is lack of emotional safety and attuned connection.” ~Dr. Sue Johnson (Founder of Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy) in LoveSense

I use the highly successful method of Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) when working with couples.  EFT has extensive research behind it….It has a 75% success rate with 93% of couples reporting that EFT counseling helped their relationship.   It is a short-term, structured therapy that typically takes around 8-20 sessions (longer with trauma and addiction recovery).  I have gone through the formal training process and use EFT to help couples with reconnection, communication, infidelity, sexual intimacy, trust-building, trauma and navigating recovery from an addiction.

What to expect?

Couples do best in the process of EFT with 80-minute couples sessions.  In the initial intake session, we will review the issues in your relationship and treatment goals.  I will explain the process of EFT and how it would apply to your goals.  Oftentimes, I recommend one individual session for each partner following the intake.  Typically, all subsequent sessions would be couple's sessions.  If during the intake session, I deem that EFT would not be the most appropriate treatment process, we will discuss alternative treatment or appropriate referrals.  The major contraindication for EFT is on-going abuse in the relationship.

In 2017,  Dr. Sue Johnson, the innovator of EFT, came to Charlotte, N.C. and sat down for an interview with The Reverend Chip Edens.  If you are interested in learning more about this phenomenal couple's treatment, listen here to Dr. Johnson talk about EFT:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvXv4EriGf8&t=1323s
